Durgā is one of the most beloved and powerful forms of the Divine Feminine in the Hindu tradition. She is worshipped as the Divine Mother, the guardian of sacred order, the refuge of those facing danger, and the courageous presence that arises when life must be protected. Her name carries associations with a fortress and with the power that carries us through difficult passages, suggesting a presence both protective and steadfast when the familiar structures around us begin to falter.
She appears when compassion requires courage, when love asks for discernment, and when remaining faithful to the sacred means confronting what has disturbed its balance. Her calmness reveals a power anchored deeply enough to move through conflict without losing relationship with itself. She neither collapses before danger nor becomes consumed by the force required to meet it. Her fierceness remains in service to life.
This is the fierce grace of Durgā.
During this year's Living Goddess Retreat, we will spend three days entering the sacred world of Durgā through her mythology, symbolism, mantra, meditation, movement, nervous-system awareness, ritual, reflection, and sisterhood. We will explore where her qualities already live within us, where they may have been hidden or distorted, and where the season we are living is asking them to emerge.

Why we meet One Goddess each year?
Each goddess carries an entire world, and a world cannot be entered in a hurry.
Her stories contain layers that unfold differently according to the season in which we meet them. Her symbols change as we change, much as a familiar piece of music can reveal a completely different meaning after love, loss, motherhood, illness, or age has taught us how to hear it.
The goddess who first teaches us courage may return years later to teach us about anger, protection, responsibility, restraint, or the grace required to remain beside ourselves when someone we love is disappointed.
A relationship of this depth asks for time.
This is why The Living Goddess is an annual retreat devoted to one goddess each year. We give ourselves the space to enter her world slowly enough for her sacred meaning to become personal and for her archetypal qualities to take root in the life we return to.

Priya Jain
Priya’s work brings together Eastern spiritual wisdom, Western psychology, Kundalini Yoga, nervous-system awareness, relationships, and the lived questions of modern women.
Her teaching begins with a simple understanding: spiritual wisdom becomes transformative when we can recognize it in our own bodies, patterns, choices, and relationships.
Through mythology and spiritual psychological inquiry, Priya invites participants into a direct encounter with the Goddess as an aspect of their own consciousness. Ancient stories become mirrors through which we can understand the forces shaping our lives today.
Born and raised in India, Priya carries within her the rich tapestry of diverse traditions, philosophies, yogic wisdom and spiritual practices. For more than a decade, she has dedicated herself to translating, embodying and sharing the wisdom teachings of the East for meaningful understanding and application in the West.
Her approach is warm, grounded, practical, and deeply experiential. She creates spaces in which women can meet themselves with honesty while developing the inner resources to live what they discover.
Priya is the co-founder of the Seventh Chakra Institute of Spiritual Sciences and Retreat Center in California, where The Living Goddess Retreat is held each year.
